Richmond Firefighters Beat the Heat 5K Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to students enrolled in an accredited college, university,
vocational, or technical school who are dependants of any current sworn Richmond
Firefighter or Firefighter who has died in the line of duty.

Eligibility
• Applicants must be dependents of a current sworn member of the Richmond
Fire Department or a dependent of a member who has died in the line of duty.

• Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted by an accredited college, university,
vocational, or technical school.

• Submit a complete informational application.

• Scholarship monies will be granted on a yearly basis and applicants may
reapply annually for additional scholarships.

• A High School/College transcript or current GPA must accompany this
application.

• Two Letters of Recommendation must accompany your application. At least
one letter must come from a teacher or counselor and neither can be written by a
relative. Applicants must give a copy of the “Instructions for Letter of
Recommendation” to each person who will write such a letter on your behalf.

• Scholarship grants will be transferred directly into the students account in the
business office of the college, university, vocational, or technical school for
tuition or book use. No outright distributions will be made. Should the recipient
fail or drop out of the educational facility (or drop below full time status as
defined by the facility), the scholarship will immediately be terminated and any
remaining funds will be returned to the Richmond Firefighters Beat the Heat 5K
Scholarship Fund.

Scholarship Award Range
Up to $1,000.00

Application Period
January 1st to April 15th. Any application postmarked before or after this period will
not be considered.
